![]() To all the people who have said “why don’t people just keep your sexuality to their self, etc., what you do in your bedroom is your own business but I don’t wanted in my face… Etc.“ ![]() Just as I was expecting, this thread really has brought out the worst in people. It’s not being politically correct, it’s just being a decent human being. You don’t have to be gay to support civil rights. The reality is that certain people lack empathy for “others” and that changes when they find out someone they like, they love, or they are related to comes out. Just as some people were uncomfortable with interracial relationships or whatever other conservative cause of the day you may still wish to champion. It’s about becoming visible and seeking equal protections under the law. This isn’t about marriage, cakes or being fabulous. A minority of states protect LGBT rights but the majority don’t. As it stands it is legal to fire people for being gay, to refuse housing or evict on the basis of orientation. Not special rights, just the same rights. I long for the day when gays get the same civil rights everyone else has. You like it when everyone is presumed straight and the gays were trying to pass as straight to avoid discrimination and violence. I miss the days when other people’s sexual orientation was none of my business.
